Malcolm Roxs is of Argentinian and Uruguayan origin, born in Buenos Aires in 1980.
From a young age, he started experimenting with an Airbrush and developing his own
visual language. Malcolm’s creative process elaborates through complex layering and
masking techniques, and the integration of technology into his work. The
distinctive chiaroscuro animates images through the calculated manipulation of light
and shadows. The artist's paintings and ceramics serve as a methodical self-exploration
through the adaptation of the autobiographical codes at the intersection of life
and art. Roxs draws inspiration from the futurism, dadaism, appropriation art and avantgarde
movements, acknowledging their radical potential.
After turning twenty Malcolm decided to enter into Performance Art, integrating creative
elements from the pictorial discipline into live expression. The signature performance of
Roxs, "Le Demolition show", aims to produce a new painting through the destruction of
the original image by covering it with vivid colors. Its core involves a multidisciplinary
approach using hands, paint, music, and light. The bodily engagement with the canvas
and the surrounding space establishes a comprehensive sensory encounter, shared with
the audience. Malcolm's emotional spectrum is decomposed before a comprehensive
renewal, aligning with the transformative processes observed in artworks.
The subjects of his paintings convey autobiographical codes, representing the artist's
personal life journey and experiences. These elements are expressed through the use of
paint, technology, and masking, taking shape via both manual and airbrush techniques.
Roxs is rooted in the Do It Yourself movement, and his artistic approach parallels the
anti-art sentiments of movements such as Dadaism and Fluxus. He advocates the belief
that art possesses the power to shape society and should not be constrained by
traditional forms.
In addition to his studio work, Malcolm Roxs is renowned for his live painting
performances. His performances are characterized by the transformative movements of
his hands, complemented by the influence of sound and stage energy. This
multidisciplinary approach enriches the audience's experience and engages them on
multiple sensory levels.
In 2008, Roxs relocated to Europe to advance his professional work. In recent years,
Malcolm Roxs has showcased his artworks and performances at prestigious institutions
and has collaborated with notable artists, including Iggy Pop and Sven Väth. His works
and performances have been featured in venues such as the Stedelijk Museum, Art
Monaco, Maccio Theatre, and the Goya Exhibition, among others.
